Look at this stuff... isn't it neat. Wouldn't you think my collection's complete?
Look at this stuff... isn't it neat.
Wouldn't you think my collection's complete?
Wouldn't you think I'm a girl, a girl who has everything?
Look at this trove, treasures untold.
How many wonders can one craft room hold.
Lookin' around here you'd think
Sure, she's got everything.
I've got wool felt and fabric aplenty
I've got bobbins and needles galore
You want a quick unpick?
I've got twenty
But who cares
No big deal?
I want more.....
Ah, the craft room. Plenty of fabric and wool felt to last you a lifetime but we always want more? Why? Because of super amazing people like Jen from One Thimble Magazine that's why.
You thought you were just having a lazy time looking at the social network weren't you. You thought you were just catching up on the local news, checking out what your mates are up to, then
BAM!
You see the front cover of the newest edition to One Thimble Magazine.
And suddenly you find yourself down at the nearest craft store!
But who cares, no big deal? I want more....
Seriously though, how could you resist this recent edition? If your like me and born in the fabulous 80's you might find yourself just shaking with excitement with the mermaid themed magazine. I mean, you should have seen my face when I opened the mood board for the pitch nearly 4 months ago now. Head's buzzing with ideas on what I could possibly design to be a part of the flipping craze.
Now you know me, I'm very girly and just love a little bit of cosplay. I love dressing up my little girl and boy playing some silly game and laughing until your tummy hurts.
So bring in the Glitter Felt Aquarian Mask.
My initial idea was to make it a mermaid mask, but with all the beautiful underwater creatures, I wanted to make something that was not specific to one part of the ocean theme. This mask is versatile and can be made using many types of mediums. But my obvious choice was Glitter Merino Wool Felt, the Rainbow Collection.
If you've not seen the Rainbow Collection up front it has not just one tone of shimmer, in fact it has quite a few specs of pale shades making it the perfect medium to use for this project.
The fins on the side of the mask were inspired by the fins of a seahorse and adding the special touch of seashells in the center of the mask making it fit for a king or queen of the ocean.
The patterns provided for this are available in the magazine in a form easy to trace onto freezer paper and also files available for download onto your Brother ScanNCut Machine.
Also included in the pattern are four different types of seashells to create many different masks you might desire.
I am very excited to see your very own creations, make sure you share your's on Instagram and Facebook and tag me so I can see your makes.
As part of this issue I was asked to create the very beautiful Mermaid Pocket Doll and Shell designed by Aimee from Daisyeyes Handmade. She is made using Wool Felt and the design will encourage you to explore your embroidery skills.
I love to do embroidery, it's such a peaceful thing to do. A new stitch I learned in this pattern was Wagon Wheels and Aimee has included detailed instructions for this and all of her embroidery for the Doll and Seashell, making it your 'must sew' next project.
In my version I used Glitter Wool Felt for her tail, Glitter Tiffany Blue, with Ivory Wool Felt for her skin and Shrimp Wool Felt for the shell. My embroidery bouquet on her front was inspired by the bullion embroidery knots I recently learnt with satin stitching for the outer petal leaves and the seaweed to give more depth to her underwater bouquet. For the last detail I cut out Butter Wool Felt circles using my trusty hole puncher (seriously it's great tool for quick small felt circles) and french knots in the center.
I absolutely adored this little doll and her seashell bed, I can see many friends joining her in the future.
With these and loads of other creations, the latest issue of One Thimble Magazine is definitely one not to be missed. Flip on over to their website now using any of the affiliate links provided in this blog and start your mermaid quest to sewing heaven.
Enjoy sweets!
