I Entered a Competition… And Then This Happened

Hello my lovelies,

Late last year, while casually doing my online banking (as you do), I came across a competition with CommBank called Matildas On Loan. Now, at first, I didn’t give it much thought—surely My Felt Lady wouldn’t have anything to do with the Matildas, right?

But a few days later, the notification popped up again, and something in me thought, oh, why not?

I started thinking about what we might have in common. And this is what I wrote in my entry:

"Oh my stars, where do I even start?! My Felt Lady brings vibrant wool felt to life, and just like the Matildas, we’re all about heart, passion, and tenacity. We’d love to see our felt featured alongside these fierce women, showing the world that creativity and determination go hand-in-hand!"

I hit submit and didn’t think anything more of it... until I got a phone call.

CommBank was telling me I’d won. Naturally, in classic Candice style, I was sure it was a scam. I even asked them to do a two-step authentication with me—yes, really.

But it turns out they were legit.

Over the following months, I ended up filming with them, featured in a video (which I’ll share below), and next thing I knew, there was a massive billboard just outside of Chinchilla... and now, promotional material in our local CommBank branch too!

It’s been surreal. I never imagined My Felt Lady would be part of something like this, and I’ve been absolutely blown away by how beautifully the campaign came together.

And no—I didn’t receive any money. But what I did receive is something far more valuable: PR, exposure, and an unbelievable boost in confidence. Marketing is expensive, and the value of what they’ve done for me? It’s priceless.

It’s been a joyful, humbling experience—one I’ll never forget. And most importantly, it’s helped shine a light on this small, heartfelt business of mine, and the incredible world of 100% wool felt made from Australian wool.

Now, I usually don’t share things like this on ANZAC Day, a day I deeply respect and one that’s always been about reflection. But today, I felt this was a story worth sharing—a moment of brightness, community, and gratitude.

Thank you for being part of my journey. Truly.

With love, felt, and still a bit of disbelief,
Candice

Congratulations on your win. As a crafter of things in felt I love your product and appreciate that it’s made in Australia from Australian wool. I see your determination in making your small business what it is just as the Matilda’s are determined in their quest to be the best.
